Gestational Diabetes During Pregnancy - How I deal with it?

This post didn't come out easily, did a lot of thinking before deciding to write or not write about it. A few years ago I could not imagine to write about such personal experience, but now here it is, I feel it might help others in my situation, as I know I would have few years ago. Coping with gestational diabetes in pregnancy is something that some of us have to do, even though the statistics say we are few moms in this situation, every year I hear of more and more cases.
I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during my 1st pregnancy and now at my 3rd also. At the 2nd pregnancy there was no gestational diabetes but my feeling is that I still had it, as baby no.2 was born big, however thank God he was born in good health and no other problems and both kids are growing nicely, in good health and a lot of appetite for life and activities.

What are the steps to follow when having GD?

This time around I am again lucky that it seems the diabetes can be held under control with diet and will make a separate post about how I manage the meals and my plan every day, in case anyone needs such details. I started the diet long before reaching a diabetologist as I know the implications for baby and really need to make sure all I do is well for his wellbeing and development. I target to have shorter meals, every 2 hours with small snacks, healthy foods, no sugars, not much difference from my previous eating habits. I did feel guilty and bad about myself for the disagnosis as I was under impression my meals are always health and if you have followed me, maybe you are aware that we do not consume anything in excess and try to keep healthy balances.

Finding a diabetologist - is it hard?

Finding help as expat was hard as this time around they did not want to accept me at Bohunice, but luckily I have found an English speaking centre with wonderful staff who are currently monitoring and helping me. Yes, is frustrating to not find the help you expect although I am insured person, but I had the will to fight more and finally all is fine, now I am focused on last trimester preparations and taking care of my diet, exercise and staying within the expected weight gain limits.

Measuring the glicemy

Every day I measure 4 times: 1 fasting glucose level and 1h after each meal.
Is well kept under control so far, will see how I manage during the last weeks, as Christmass is coming soon and is not much fun to be on strict diet during the winter holidays.
Baby weight is normal, not much and not less than expected and for a bonus I gained no extra pounds during the last 6 weeks.

Will continue doing these steps and prepare another detailed post about this issue, in case there exists interest.

Thank you my beloved readers for stopping by,
I know you are there and my writing is not in vain

All the best!
